The information and sources used for this app have been checked to the best of our knowledge and belief. The use of this app is intended to assist and simplify the checking of your food for the addition of insects. For legal reasons, we must point out that the Insect Inspect app does not replace the user's own responsibility to read the ingredient information on the packaging of the tested products. In order to define the insects added to a food, this app uses the official information from the Novel Food Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2015 on novel foods, amending Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council and repealing Regulation (EC) No 258/97 of the EuropeanParliament and of the Council and Commission Regulation (EC) No 1852/2001 (Text with EEA relevance)). Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 2008 on food additives and the corrigendum to Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 2008 on food additives (OJ L 354, 31.12.2008) regulates in Articles 26 and 27 the mandatory labelling and information requirements that manufacturers must provide on the packaging of the foodstuffs they offer, as well as the monitoring obligations of the Member States. These obligations must actually be fulfilled by the parties involved. As food manufacturers can change the composition of ingredients at any time, the app cannot guarantee that such changes will be detected in the products at the same time. We also cannot guarantee that all insect ingredients recognised by the app are actually present in the product in question. Nor can we guarantee that any unrecognised insect components are not actually present (e.g. in the case of contamination).
However, our sources are regularly updated within a narrow time window in order to provide an up-to-date entry of any new information as soon as possible. This app uses the Open Food Facts and - unlike comparable apps - the list of ingredients to request information about food. It is therefore not dependent on the EAN code and its storage in an official database. As there may be malfunctions that we cannot influence, we cannot guarantee that all information retrieved from these sources is correct, complete or up-to-date. If there is incorrect information on the labels of the scanned products, we cannot be held responsible for the incorrect information and accept no liability for it.
In particular, if you are allergic to insect ingredients, you are advised to read the manufacturer's information about the ingredients on the packaging.
